Franklin Island Lighthouse

Franklin Island Lighthouse, established in 1805, is one of Maine’s earliest coastal beacons, situated on Franklin Island in Muscongus Bay. The current 45-foot cylindrical brick tower, constructed in 1855, emits a white flash every six seconds and remains an active aid to navigation. Automated in 1967, the lighthouse is now part of the Franklin Island National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. While the island is closed to the public during seabird nesting season (April–August), it can be viewed from the water during the rest of the year.
