Hendricks Head Light

Hendricks Head Light, established in 1829, is a historic lighthouse located on the westernmost point of Southport Island, Maine, marking the entrance to the Sheepscot River. The current square brick tower, constructed in 1875, stands 43 feet tall and was originally equipped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens. The light was deactivated in 1933 but relit in 1951 and automated in 1975. Today, it remains an active aid to navigation, displaying a fixed white light with a red sector, visible up to nine nautical miles. The keeper’s house is now a private summer residence, and while the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, it can be viewed from nearby beaches or by boat.
