Kennebec River Range Lights

The Kennebec River Range Lights, also known as the Doubling Point Range Lights, are a pair of historic navigational beacons located on Arrowsic Island, Maine. Established in 1898, these octagonal wooden towers were constructed to guide vessels safely through a sharp double bend in the Kennebec River near Bath, a city renowned for its shipbuilding industry. The front range light stands 17 feet tall, while the rear tower is 13 feet; when aligned, they indicate the correct course for mariners navigating the river’s challenging turns .

The light station includes a keeper’s house and an oil house, all connected by wooden walkways. In 1990, the range lights were automated, and they remain active aids to navigation today .
