Nash Island Lighthouse

Nash Island Lighthouse, situated at the entrance to Pleasant Bay near South Addison, Maine, was first established in 1838 to aid the region’s bustling maritime activities. The current 51-foot square brick tower, constructed in 1874, replaced the original wooden structure and was equipped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse was automated in 1958, leading to the demolition of all ancillary buildings, and was eventually decommissioned in 1982, replaced by an offshore buoy. In 1997, the Friends of Nash Island Light acquired the tower and have since undertaken restoration efforts. The island, part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, is closed to the public during nesting season but can be viewed by boat
